Ever wanted or even needed tiny OLED screen powered by an even tinier arduino?? Well if so get yourself a Microview and integrate it into your next project! This is a great example of how crowd funding is works perfectly for free and open hardware. As of writing this post the Microview project has smashed their initial goal of £25k and set to break the $500k mark soon.
Geek Ammo has partnered with SparkFun, to manufacture and distribute the product out to its backers. By partnering with SparkFun, Geek ammo are able to reduce the risk for backers, as they already have a great track record and are trusted and well known in the maker community. Another great advantage is that the Microview will be made in the US, the home country of the product designers. Local production is an important step in increasing accountability for employee well-being, manufacturing standards & environmental responsibility.
We will be sure to keep an eye out for Geek Ammo in the future, as with the overwhelming success of the Microview, the will be sure to design and release further open source hardware project… 🙂
